National Star's work with young adults with disabilities is truly life changing for the students and residents they support and their families.

The charity runs long-term residential accommodation for seven young adults with disabilities, as well as a popular day college for 18 to 25-year-old students with disabilities, in Hereford.

People that work at the charity all agree that supporting the residents and students is what gives them the greatest job satisfaction.

"I would highly recommend National Star as an employer," said one employee recently when they reviewed National Star on a leading jobs site.

Hereford Times:
The students and residents never let their disability get in the way of what they want to do. Like other young people in their early twenties, they enjoy listening to music and dancing, swimming, theatre trips and country walks. The residents have a range of disabilities and, despite their different needs, get on like a house on fire.

Career progression is also something that motivates staff to remain at the charity, which offers first-class training opportunities, including fully-funded degree apprenticeships enabling people to qualify as an occupational therapist, nurse or physiotherapist.

The charity regularly attracts people new to care to join the team and trains new recruits to become confident and capable adult care workers.

The current staff team is a mixture of part-time and full-time workers, bringing a broad range of skills and experience. Former shop assistants and hospitality workers have turned their backs on their previous careers to join the team, preferring the rewarding aspects of working with young people with disabilities. Other staff have left roles in elderly care to work in National Star’s more dynamic environment.
