GOODRICH Cricket Club have enjoyed a very successful first season in the Forest of Dean Midweek Cricket League this year.
They finished up runners-up, with a narrow one-run defeat against Newent, the eventual champions, in their penultimate game costing them their chance of lifting the title.
They started with a big win against Yorkley, and went on to beat Newnham-on-Severn, Lydney, Alvington and a competitive Cinderford St Johns side.
Their only other defeat was against Lydney Colts, when a couple of very talented Australian batsmen displayed their skills.
One of the major benefits from running the side has been the successful introduction of a number of colts players into senior cricket, with Tom Dryden, Ellis Rutsch and Norman Dunford holding their own with some polished performances.
They have also recruited a couple of new players during the campaign, another plus for the venture.
The club intends to round off the season with a match between the under-30s and the over-30s at their Avenue Ground next Wednesday.
The fixture will followed up by a celebration evening including refreshments and music, with anyone welcome to attend.
