HEREFORD and County athlete Clara Evans turned in an outstanding performance to finish second in the BUPA Great Wales Run junior race at Cardiff Bay.

The event, televised on Channel 5, attracted a record entry of more than 200 junior athletes and Evans finished just behind Bridgend athlete Lora Roberts over a 2,100 metre course in front of a large crowd.

Buoyed by her performance, Evans travelled to Brecon in confident mood to defend her female junior championship in the 25th anniversary of the Brecon 10 junior race.

She was duly successful in claiming her second title and subsequently rounded off her highly-successful exploits in Wales by finishing third in the Swansea Mile Challenge.

Naomi Prosser, another Hereford and County athlete, also competed at Swansea, in the 5,000-metres race.

Despite being one of the youngest competitors in the seniors race, which was held along the sea front, and in difficult blustery conditions, Prosser managed to finish in a creditable 153rd place.

The Swansea race featured 343 starters.
