IN-FORM Ian Rivers clinched top spot in the Hereford Wheelers Cycling Club’s 13th 10-mile time trial on the Yazor course last week.
Rivers won the event in 23 minutes and 24 seconds, while Climb on Bikes rider Richard Lambert took second place fewer than 25 seconds behind.
George Burgess is another rider in good form and is now regularly in the top podium positions.
Six ladies battled for first place with Ali Hall coming home in great style more than 30 seconds ahead of her closest rival Sarah Lloyd-Stephens.
A total of 44 riders tackled the tough course which winds its way from the Yazor Church through Credenhill to the new Stretton Sugwas roundabout and returns.
The top five riders were: 1 Ian Rivers 23.24, 2 Richard Lambert 23.47, 3 George Burgess 23.56, 4 Steve King 24.38, 5 Luke Williams 24.49.
The top five female riders were: 1 Ali Hall 28.35, 2 Sarah Lloyd-Stephens 29.13, 3 Linda White 29.45, 4 Claire Hubblethwaite 31.03, 5 Jo Crisall 31.18.
At this time of the season the Welsh Championships are held in South Wales.
Over the last fortnight Wheeler members have taken part in the 10 and 100 mile time trials at the Welsh Championships.
In the men’s Championship 10, Rivers was the club’s highest-placed rider, taking fourth place in 20.51. Others were Jon Tetley 21.27, Simon Geary 22.52, Neil Turner 23.57, Guy Evans 24.21 and Bill Berry in 26.36.
In the ladies 10, Hall and Lloyd-Stephens finished eighth and ninth, in 26.21 and 26.30, respectively.
The Welsh Championship 100 was much more successful for the club with the trio of Rivers (3.59.39), Tetley (4.10.56) and Alex Haines (4.15.31) taking first-place glory in the team prize.
The event tonight (Thursday) is the penultimate round of the 10-mile time trial series and the last visit to the Lugg Bridge course at 7pm.
